Tania and Igor have two children, Bogdana, a girl with autism, and Emmanuel, 4 years old (she was pregnant when they arrived from Ukraine in 2022), and are foster parents for 8 children.
March 2022, war in Ukraine – two child protection organisations bring Tania and Igor, who run a foster home for children in Ukraine, to Switzerland, providing them with accommodation and a salary.
Three years later, the canton of Vaud suspends its financial support because the law does not allow fostering more than 5 children. However, they have two children of their own and are fostering 7 children: two are now adults, but that still means two “too many.”
Help Tania and Igor – and the children in the home
In early 2026, they finally received permission to keep all the children, and Igor found a job at the factory while Tania began a training program.
But in early April, she learned she had cancer. She has just started 18 weeks of intensive chemotherapy, followed by surgery and radiation therapy. She will be unable to work for the next few months and is not entitled to unemployment benefits: it will therefore be difficult to pay the rent for the oversized house where they have been temporarily housed as a foster home.
Since Christmas 2023, Tania has come once a month with some of her extended family and friends to support the refugees in Thones who are being assisted by Lake Aid. We have therefore decided to set up this fundraiser to support them in turn. Contributions are, of course, entirely at each person’s discretion and are tax-deductible in France.
Help Tania and Igor – and the children in the home
We are also preparing a sponsorship campaign to support the children long-term.
Description of expenses
The house rent is 5,000 Swiss francs per month, plus 690 Swiss francs in utilities, including electricity, water, and gas. The housing allowance for the 5 minor children fostered there covers 1,220 Swiss francs of this.
Fund beneficiaries
With the money raised, Lake Aid will contribute to the home’s rent.
Project sponsors
For the first few years, the children received support from SOS Children’s Villages and the Tipiti association, which paid their wages and rent with support from the Canton of Vaud. After the termination of their employment contracts and the suspension of housing assistance, the family did not apply for social assistance to allow Bogdana to benefit from health insurance related to her disability, a very rare genetic disease.
