Helping children keep up with their schooling during lockdown

Lydie’s delivery!

Covid-19 confinement has been particularly challenging for the asylum seeking and homeless children who Lake Aid supports. Providing tablets and computers has been key to helping them continue their schooling.

Lake Aid distributed nine tablets and laptops to lockdown children in Annecy, Doussard, Faverges and Rumilly. A big thank you to those from our network who responded so quickly and generously to our appeal on Facebook: Carolina, Audrey, Sandra, Helen, Wink and especially Lydie – who managed to collect five tablets and a computer! Thanks also to Caroline, a teacher at the college in Faverges, who took a computer to unaccompanied minors Sekou and Mamadou. And a massive thank you to Yvonne and other donors for their time spent reformatting all the devices!

We’d also like to thank Yvonne, Laura, Sarah, Sandra, Siobhan and Oscar for offering mobile phone credit to enable students to continue with online lessons from home.

Last but not least, thanks to the generosity of Karen and local stationery company Maped, we were also able to offer essential school supplies to around 20 children living in Annecy Roma camps, at the request of charity Alfa3A.

On behalf of all the children who were able to continue their studies during lockdown, we thank you!
